Common Knee Injuries

The Knee Joint

The knee is one of the largest and most complex joints in the body; and probably the most injured joint in the body. Each year, more than 5.5 million people visit an orthopedic surgeon for knee problems. Cartilage covers the knee's bones. But with years of wear and tear, the cartilage gradually breaks down allowing knee bones to grind against each other, causing pain and even more damage. Knee injuries can result from a blow to the knee, from a sudden stop or twist, or from an improper landing after a jump. Running too hard or not allowing enough recovery time between training sessions can also be harmful.
